Life of Maharana Pratap

Hindu heart emperor Maharana Pratap was born on May 9, 1540, in Mewar, Rajasthan. His father’s name was Rana Udai Singh, and his mother’s name was Jaywanta Bai. He belonged to the Rajput family. His wife was Ajabde Punwar. After marriage, Maharana Pratap was blessed with two children. Both were sons. Their names were Amar Singh and Bhagwan Das. The name of the horse on which the great Rajput warrior Maharana Pratap rode was Chetak. Horse Chetak was a brave warrior like Maharana Pratap.

Maharana Pratap was courageous since childhood. For this, he had no problem in learning war skills. Also, the Hindu Hridaya Samrat was a follower of God. Used to worship God every day. After this, he used to help the people. He was also called the priest of humanity. Maharana Pratap’s first guru was his mother.

Rana Udai Singh had three queens. Among them, Rana Udai Singh had great affection for Rani Dheer Bai. She (Rani Dheer Bai) wanted her son to succeed Rana Udai Singh. However, Rana Udai Singh wanted Maharana Pratap to become the successor. Due to this civil strife, the enemies got an opportunity, and they attacked Mewar. Rajputs were defeated in this.

After this defeat, Maharana Pratap left Chittor for the welfare of the people. After this, the battle of Haldi Ghati took place in 1576. In this war, Maharana Pratap had the support of Afghan kings. Afghani Hakim Khan fought on behalf of Rajputs in the Sur war till his last breath. Pratap’s army faced defeat due to a lack of food.

Pratap’s horse, Chetak, was injured in this war. He died while crossing the river in 1576. After this war, Pratap started living in the forest, and finally, on January 29, 1597, at the age of 57, he attained martyrdom.

After the death of Udai Singh in 1572, Rani Dheer Bai requested that Uday Singh’s eldest son, Jagmal, be anointed king, but top courtiers felt that Pratap was more suitable to handle the situation. This is the story of how Pratap ascended to the throne when his father died.

On June 18, 1576, the Rajput army confronted the Mughal army. The combat lasted four hours and claimed many casualties on the Mewar side. 

Though the Mughals were able to capture large portions of Mewar, notably Gogunda and the surrounding districts, they were unable to depose Maharana Pratap, who continued to harry the Mughals through guerrilla tactics.

When Akbar’s attention was diverted elsewhere, Pratap and his army emerged from hiding and effectively reclaimed control of his province’s western territories. Maharana Pratap assaulted and conquered the Mughal garrison at Dewair in 1582.
