Mahatma Gandhi was born on second October 1869. He was born in the district of “Porbandar” in Gujarat. His full name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He is popularly known as “Bapu” or “Rashtrapita”. He is known as the “Father Of Nation” all over the country. He pursued his degree of Law from the London University and hence completed his graduation in 1891. He strictly believed in “Ahimsa” (non-violence) and “Satya” (truth). He significantly contributed to India’s struggle for Freedom. He inspired people all over the world to raise their voices against all kinds of taboos like caste system, racism, discrimination based on colour, gender, caste, etc. In short, he was a straightforward man with a lot of ideas. 

There are many things known about him till date, but there are still some unknown facts about him  

Mahatma Gandhi loved Football

Mahatma Gandhi was a great footballer. We never came to know about this trait of his because he never played football professionally. But Gandhi had so much interest in this, that football clubs were established at places which he visited. He formed two football clubs in South-Africa when he once stayed there for some time. One of the clubs is in Johannesburg, and the other one is in Pretoria.  

Mahatma Gandhi And His Academic Life

Though Mahatma Gandhi was outstanding in English speaking and writing and its professional skills, he was not at all good in his studies. He was just an average student in maths and a poor student in geography. He was too bad with his handwriting, and his teachers even complained about it and embarrassed him.  

Mahatma Gandhi’s marriage

He was only a teenager when he got married in 1882. He was only about thirteen years when he was getting married. And his wife was of about fourteen years old at that time. His bride’s name is “Kasturba”. Their first child died because of being quite unhealthy. His child’s death made him voice out his dissent strongly against Child-marraige’ system.  

Nobel peace prize

Mahatma Gandhi got nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize about five times. But it is hard for us to believe that even after being nominated so many times, he never won any prize.  

Mahatma Gandhi And His Diet

Although Mahatma Gandhi seemed to be an unhealthy person, he strictly followed his self-made diet. He used to have nuts, dry fruits as well as seeds but after he suffered health problems, he got back to his strict diet of “vegetarianism“. He believed that every person should have his or her diet and follow it strictly. He also used to drink fresh goat’s milk. And with this only he maintained his health and could go for hunger strikes for many days.   

Mahatma Gandhi And His Non-Violence

We all know about the famous non-violence path which Mahatma Gandhi followed, but still, he recruited Indians to fight for the Britishers during World War-1.  

Gandhi And His Photographs

Mahatma Gandhi did not like to click his photographs at all. Despite this, we have seen a lot of his pictures to date. His images were even printed on the Indian coins.  

Gandhi did not want any government to be established in India. He only believed that people could gain ethical, moral values by self-governing themselves through the path of Non-violence and Truth.
