A unique device to curb vehicular air-pollution by IIT Graduate.
According to the media reports, an IIT Kharagpur graduate has developed a unique device that restrains vehicular air pollution by a significant degree. As per the report, Debayan Saha, who is a mechanical engineering graduate from IIT Kharagpur, has invented a device that, once placed on the exhaust pipe of any car will lower the air pollution emitted by the car exhausts. In addition to this, the device can also neutralise the pollution emitted from the other ten vehicles in its vicinity.

Confirming the development of such a device that reduces air pollution, the developer claimed that the invention works on a combination of wave and electrical energy which includes PM 2.5 pollutants. According to Debayan Saha, the device attracts PM 2.5 contaminants like a magnet and also attaches itself to the similar pollutants found in the ambient atmosphere. By drawing a large number of PM 2.5 pollutants together, the device makes such pollutants heavier, and as a result, they fall safely on the ground instead of being airborne and polluting the air.
PM 2.5 Pollutants Most Harmful
Taking about why chose only to work on PM 2.5 pollutants, Saha added that while there are PM 10 and above contaminants as well which add to the air pollution around us but the PM 2.5 pollutants are very dangerous because when we inhale they enter our bloodstream through our lungs. Therefore, it was vital to address PM 2.5 pollutants, and Saha’s new invention does precisely that.
Air Pollution is a Major Problem in the Indian Cities
Indian cities, especially those in north India, have been a victim of air pollution during October and November. Delhi and NCR region, including the satellite towns of Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad, suffer from poor to inferior air quality during the same months. While the Delhi Government has attributed the increasing air pollution in the city to the incidents of stubble burning in the surrounding states; vehicular air pollution is also a significant contributor to the air pollution in the city.
His invention is remarkable as it reduces the amount of pollution in the air, which is the utmost needed for the country now.
