Functions of Space Agencies

The national target of space agencies is to obtain benefits particularly connected with space activities. And to reach the target, it requires to overcome the challenges like:

  • Space puts high demands in terms of technology, science, management.
  • National capabilities in these areas need to be mobilised and developed.
  • Useful inclusion of national capacities into international cooperation.
  • Agencies should evaluate how far to expand the original scope of topics, i.e. how far they should be involved in security, telecom, meteorology, Earth observation services, etc.

9 Different Types of Satellites launched by ISRO

Space agencies are mainly responsible for handling edge-cutting “R&D” programmes (typically inspection, scientific research in space, human-made spaceflight) as a mandatory condition to certify the future space-ensued welfare to natives. On the other hand, agencies brace an attempt of governmental users to erect, to employ and to use advanced space-oriented systems and services but not financial or decisional management.

National public finances are to be used efficiently and for national interests. It results in the creation of a national central body dedicated to space activities. Although both types of agencies have the same main target, federal agencies are not the same. They differ in size, span of actions, legal esteem, liabilities and financing model.

Another same function of the space agencies is to make it sure that through a national agency, the country rebukes with a sole voice in all international forum which is sponsored by single universal budget for all space activities. The ultimate success in sticking out to the target does not rely on the name “agency” instead of on the internal quality of job and external conditions namely- getting accepted and respected across the governmental level, having an exact specification of goals, i.e. national policy. The federal space agency is a valuable national asset if it operates well as a part of overall national infrastructure for innovation.
