Mother Teresa: The Saint Of The Gutters

Mother Teresa, also known Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, was born in Skopje on 26th August 1920. She belonged to an Albanian family. She was a nun and a missionary, known as Saint Teresa Of Calcutta. She was inspired with the deep compassion for charity commitment in her mind. She took the vows to serve for poverty, chastity and obedience. She devoted her whole life for spreading the love of Christ.

Mother Teresa and her family members

Her mother’s name was Dranafile Bojaxhiu, and her father’s name was Nikola Bojaxhiu. Her father was an entrepreneur while her mother was a devotee in the Catholic Church. Her father was worked as a construction contractor and medicines trader, whereas her mother was involved in the local church and city politics. She raised her voice for the Albanian Independence.

Education

Mother Teresa studied in a convent primary school, and after that, she studied in a state secondary school. When she was young, she used to sing songs in the local Sacred Heart Choir group in the local areas. She also sang solos. When she was of twelve years, she felt the strong religious call from her God, Jesus. And at the age of only eighteen, she decided to become a nun.

Mother Teresa learned Bengali as well as Hindi. She taught History and Geography to girls. She taught students at Saint Mary’s and then became the principal of that school in 1944. She was known for her kindness, generosity and her strict commitment to her students.

Her years of devotion and service

When she was of only eight years old, her father got ill and died. She then got too close to her mother. Her mother only taught her the real essence of charity and love for Jesus Christ. Later, Mother Teresa became a vocal against divorce, abortion and contraception. In 1962, Government of India awarded her with Padma Shri award. Mother Teresa also opened widespread centres for serving the aged, the disabled and the blind.

She suffered many health problems for many years like lungs, heart and kidney problems and then in 1997 on 5th September she died. But even after her death, she remained in every person’s heart. Even now, she is among the greatest humanists who served the needy.
